At residency in Toffia, Italy, I created a weaving, using the tools and patterns of my late Grandmother, as a way to reconnect with memories and further research into women’s history in Italy. Meeting with various women from the area, they used my grandmother's notes and patterns to help mentor how to crochet and thus began a relationship. We would crochet together while watching the nightly Bocce ball game. The work was created using industrial copper due to its malleability, preciousness, strength and ethereal quality, in contrast to weaving being viewed as traditional women’s work.
